Once you earn your MA in STEAM Teaching and Learning, you鈥檒l be qualified to pursue a range of rewarding career paths, including:
- High school or middle school computer science, math or science teacher
- Elementary school computer or computer science teacher
- Computer/maker lab coordinator
- Advancement to professional teaching certification (if you are an elementary school teacher, ESL teacher, art/music teacher or any other New York state teacher who only has initial certification)
- District leader in interdisciplinary curriculum development
This program is STEM-designated offering specialized training in high-demand fields and eligible international students can extend their OPT to 36 months.

Exceptional Hands-On Learning
The MA in STEAM Teaching and Learning is powered by collaborative initiatives that lead to rich service- and project-based learning experiences.
Our program鈥檚 urban focus invites students to engage with the unique opportunities and challenges of teaching math, science and computer science schools today. Courses are either online or at our exciting 苍别飞听Brooklyn Center, while your practice teaching can be in New York schools of your choice. You鈥檒l also hone your creativity at 辞耻谤听.
The MA鈥檚 curriculum builds your expertise in math, science or computer science teaching, and emphasizes creative ways of helping students engage in STEM. You will learn how to make sense of school culture and student identity and develop powerful instructional skills. Three maker lab-based courses will focus on integrating ideas across STEM using art and design, giving you a strong foundation in design thinking, learning theory, and educational technology and equity. In only 12 months, you will be prepared to teach, with all your accreditation criteria met. Your final MA project challenges you to create and design your own STEAM teacher workshop, to be piloted on campus or at a partner school.
Institute for STEM and the Imagination (MIXI)
MIXI periodically hosts STEM-related events that are open to the public and also would be of particular interest to faculty and also current or prospective students of the Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences鈥� master鈥檚 programs in STEAM Teaching and Learning.

Application Requirements
All candidates must submit the following:
- Official undergraduate transcript demonstrating a 3.0 or higher GPA and proof of bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited four-year institution
- Undergraduate degree in physics, biology, chemistry or earth science
- A current r茅sum茅 or CV
- Personal statement
- Online survey completed by two recommenders
Additional Requirements
Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and proof of bachelor鈥檚 degree from an accredited four-year institution to pursue a master鈥檚 degree in STEAM Teaching and Learning.
